We can forget about Jang Guen-suk for now, as Na PD has “kindly”
invited enslaved another maknae for our entertainment. Although Sohn Ho-joon only appears in like the last 20mins of Three (Fishing) ep2, he is worth the wait.
Meanwhile, let’s see what are the other highlights:
1) Super Chajumma
Seriously…is there ANYTHING that Cha Seung-won CANNOT do? Remember the catch that our power couple managed to ensnare last week? Well, Chajumma shows us how to deftly scale, gut and debone the groupers….and not only that, even the slippery eel doesn’t faze him. And for our sake, the editing crew tells us juz how “easy” it is to prepare an eel. First, you have to nail the head down to prevent it from slipping out. Then you skin it, slit it across in half, remove the innards, then carefully debone it following the central spine downwards. (don’t worry, the program removed much of the gore)
Anyway, thanks to Chajumma’s skills, our power couple managed to have a Michelin classed dinner with sashimi (really fresh ones) and grilled eel. Each time you see them guys having dinner, you can also hear the collective drooling from Na PD and his crew. Na PD did manage to wheedle a bite out from Chajumma’s dinner…and his immediate complaint: “It’s such a tiiinnny piece!!!”
For those interested in learning how to make your own radish or cabbage kimchis or even brew your own makgeolli, forget about reading it from a cookbook. Watch Three (Fishing), cos Chajumma will show you how. (yes, even brewing home-styled makgeolli)
Na PD has paired together 2 beings that totally complement each other in terms of personalities and habits. Cha Seung-won embodies all the desirable and not-so-desirable traits of women, and Yoo Hae-jin, the men. While Chajumma totally sux at fishing (hunting), Hubby Hae-jin has no problem netting or reeling up fish from the sea. Likewise, Hubby Hae-jin has zero patience digging (gathering) for mussels, whereas Chajumma has no issues squatting on a wet, rocky outcrop harvesting them fat, juicy mussels.
And like most men in a household, going home = resting. To Chajumma, going home = endless chores to complete…so in order to get help, Chajumma relies on “her” most effective weapon: nagging. 😛
3) Strangely…the couple seems to LIKE it here
I’m not joking. Recall Three (Farm): since when did Seo-jinnie and Taec actually bothered to stroll around the countryside, much less hike up the mountain behind their hanok-farmhouse? Cha Seung-won and Yoo Hae-jin actually volunteered to film their excursion up the mountain in their backyard. And Cha Seung-won even indulge in a 15-min warm up prep. And later, another 15-min cool down exercise on the top of the mountain. Both of which contain a certain amount of push-ups, crunches, lunges, stretches, back bends…(i’m trying to imagine Seo-jinnie doing it…nope)
Ironically, despite appearing so enthusiastic about exercising, hiking is the next most hated thing on Cha’s list. The others are “fishing” (which he flopped at as can be seen in ep1), and chess playing. (maybe Na PD will get him to play on a cold blustery day…for our entertainment, of cos)
Generally, the two guys do not seem to find life any harder at Manjae Island. Although Yoo whines a little about having no catch (only to have fish biting immediately once he complained), and Cha nags about the weather, about Yoo, and about everything in particular…they appear to really enjoy the slower paced life there. Imo, they are starting to look like islanders themselves.
4) Intro to San-je
Yay! I finally got the pup’s name. And he is SOooooo tiny-ly cute! Cos of his size, he can’t eat dry pellets immediately. His pellets also need to be carefully rationed in order not to give him a tummy upset. But these are not reasons to stop a hungry pup from snuffling in eagerness at the covered soaked pellets in his dog dish. Yoo hilariously had to tug him back several times — by the tail. (ok, i’m sure he didn’t pull hard, Yoo himself has a dog…so he’s an experienced pet owner)
Well, in return, San-je also plays rough with Yoo. While Yoo is dozing, San-je decides that the ahjusshi’s fat arm is the right tool to sharpen his teeth…so… CHOMP! (see above)
5) Intro to Ho-joon
Oh my poor boy!!! Although Na PD claimed he is invited as a GUEST, he still can’t help feeling nervous. Worse so, when he arrives to see Yoo and Cha zzz-ing in the house and doesn’t know whether or how to wake them. So he does what he loves best. Sit on the wooden deck outside the house, looking extremely scared [kooriyuki: And the editing team captioned that his legs were shaped like an ‘A’ — below image]. And like his visit to Seo-jinnie’s farmhouse, he is so petrified he doesn’t dare MOVE an inch. (his usual permission asking “can I change my clothes?” “can I do this, or that?” followed not long after)
6) Intro to Ho-joon + San-je
Ahh…but there’s one entity in Three (Fishing) who has the power to remove Ho-joon’s classic A-legged nervousness. And that’s San-je! The moment Ho-joon opens the door into San-je’s room (also Yoo’s room), he immediately starts cooing to the puppy. San-je returns his affections in kind. In less than 10mins after their introductions, both are busy kissing/licking each other faces.
The editing crew kindly provides us some more teasers of Ho-joonie and San-je in the near future, as Man and Dog bond as one. So much so that San-je will ignore Yoo in favour of Ho-joon. Yoo tries to cajole San-je to run to him, and all that dog does is give him a side-eye and bounds over to Ho-joon’s side, tail wagging. (he muz be a dog that bears grudges…he remembers Yoo pulling him away from his dog dish)
Argh…I hate having to wait for another week for more Ho-joon + San-je antics. Oh, during an interview, Ho-joon was asked whether he likes Yoo Yeon-seok or San-je better. His answer, “………..(long pause)….but Yeon-seok-ie doesn’t aegyo as much as San-je.”
While filming at Manjae Island, Cha Seung-won also misses his dad’s memorial service. So while hiking up the mountain, he and Yoo Hae-jin prepared a simple memorial. In the interview later, Cha choked up when the production crew asked him about his dad, and Yoo’s understated help in the simple memorial. (aww) T_T
