Coming from the writer of I Need Romance franchise, Because it’s the First Time is an easy watch. Each episode comprises of three 15-minutes segment of a different theme each, but tells a continuous story. While the I Need Romance series are about working adults and their love lives, Because it’s the First Time is a coming-of-age story of 5 friends who just hit the age of twenty, where everything is a first time for these first-time adults.

Yoon Tae Oh (Choi Min Ho of SHINee) is kind of the leader of the pack of 5 friends, consisting of Han Song Yi (Park So Dam), Seo Ji Ahn (Kim Min Jae), Choi Hoon (Lee Yi Kyung) and Oh Ga In (Jo Hye Jung). Not much is known about their respective family backgrounds, except that both Tae Oh and Song Yi lost a parent each while still in their teens. Tae Oh stays in a pretty big rooftop house, which serves as a hangout for the friends.

Tae Oh seems pretty well to do, with the only goal of finding a pretty girlfriend. He has a crush on Song Yi since high school, and there was a funny cameo scene by Yoona (of SNSD) as senior who has a crush on him. She asks him out for a movie date, but he turns her down flatly because he is rushing to buy hotdog bun for Song Yi. Song Yi on the other hand, has a crush on Ji Ahn, and it seems to be reciprocated at this point. Song Yi and Tae Oh share a bickering relationship, and Tae Oh is always there for her whenever she has family troubles.

While a love triangle seem to be forming among the friends, a more straightforward relationship between Choi Hoon and Ga In is hinted at. Hoon is always chased out of his house wearing only a pair of boxers, and he’s a running joke among the friends. Ga In is a little on the plump side, but she is totally fine with it, and seems to be an aspiring hairdresser, learning the skills at home, with her friends as her models.

Despite a straightforward plot, the characters are well-written and I think it should bring about some melancholy when watching it, especially for viewers who’re long past the age of twenty. Do give this a try if you have time.
