Lee Jin-wook oppa pays a visit to the Three‘s fishing village this ep, and he really adapts to the environment like, well…like a fish to water. (sorry for the bad pun)
1. In preparation for the guest visit
Early in the morning, Papa Yoo plays carpenter again, sawing and hammering out a larger chopping board (with added height, in consideration of Chajumma’s long legs) for the chef in the house.
After that, it’s bz-bz time…Chajumma with Ho-joonie‘s help, prepare a potato + vege + clam (?) soup for Jin-wook oppa. The fish which Ho-joonie brought back earlier as payment for his labour will only be fried when Jin-wook arrives.
And then, when all else is done…the trio decide on the same-old game of “ignoring the guest”. (zzz…will they ever grow up) Unfortunately, Jin-wook oppa isn’t as jumpy as Hyung-sik (or maybe he’s denser). So the “trick” of ignoring him and trying work him up falls flat — to the trio’s embarrassment. (lol)
To make up for their failure in tricking Jin-wook, Chajumma brings out the (really fresh) fish and fries them for lunch.
2. Babes magnet
Amusingly, Jin-wook’s arrival is herald by a bunch of ladies — the village’s ahjummas turn out in force to peep at the handsome new arrival at Manjae-do. Papa Yoo whines that when the 3 of them are here (like perpetually), NOBODY bothers to even glance at them. (aww)
Not only is Jin-wook popular with women, he has a way with cats. Bee takes an IMMEDIATE liking to him, and for once, he becomes as shameless as San-je. While Jin-wook is snoozing, Bee wastes no time to snuggle up to him, head butt him, and steal kisses from him — to the effect of scaring Jin-wook awake. (well, if a furry body thumps on your chest while u are in deep sleep, u’d be shocked awake too)
And he becomes reaaalllly annoyed when San-je leaps into Jin-wook’s arms to wash his face with licks. (juz look at that pissed off slitted eyes above…lol)
Jin-wook reveals that he has kept cats (even one as young as a newborn kitten) before for about 3 years. Thus, he knows what felines like and dislike. Three kindly provides clueless viewers with Cat Petting Know-how 101:
- Approach a cat and let it sniff your hand/fingers first before stroking it (exactly like how Jin-wook introduces himself to Bee)
- Cats love being stroked/ petted on the head and the butt (not the tail)
- Never ever try to stroke a cat’s tummy…esp a strange one, even if it proffers it to you. There is a chance you may get scratched/ bitten by a really pissed off kitty.
4. Fishing looks f**king easy — for some
Right after lunch, Chajumma decides to try out his hands on fishing, cos he complains of being bored at home. (he’s always kinda stuck in the kitchen, poor thing) So he and Jin-wook gear up to travel to the fishing spot off Manjae-do. While they are putting on their fishing protective gear, Papa Yoo decides on giving “advice” to the newbies.
Chajumma wanna try using the plastic bait, but Papa Yoo insists that newcomers should stick with “easier” live bait. Na PD rubs salt in his wounds, by pointing out that Papa Yoo probably is afraid that the 2 will come back with a boatload of fish…when he had trouble fishing (even with nets) for the whole of Three (Season 1 + 2).
Well, Na PD does hit the nail on the head. Papa Yoo is indeed worried that the 2 newbies will outshine him (having had bad experience while fishing with Hyung-sik before). After the duo leave, he mutters a prayer under his breath that they will come back empty-handed. (lol)
On the boat ride to the fishing outpost, the village head shows the cast another method of fishing. He ties several live bait to a series of strings and let them trail behind the fast boat…and in less than 10mins, Chajumma has a hit. Then Jin-wook, then Jin-wook, then Jin-wook — again… (and i think they caught Yellow Tail, or Hamachi, which is a rather expensive fish)
Jin-wook’s luck with fishing continues at the rocky fishing location. Within MINUTES of casting his line, fish will bite his bait. And in the less than 2h standing there, Jin-wook catches 5 and Chajumma 1 fish. (note: Papa Yoo had ever spent 4-5h juz standing in the freezing winter gale with no results)
Poor Papa Yoo probably has a premonition of what is to come. Even though he manages to find a rather cool, secluded “man-hole” for himself, he can’t help but feel uneasy throughout the day…and when he returns home to see Chajumma cleaning and slicing like PILES of raw fish sashimi, he can only quietly shake his head in defeat. (awwwww)
5. Eat-until-you-throw-up sashimi feast
Literally. The Yellow Tails Jin-wook + Chajumma caught in the afternoon are all packed with meat. When Ho-joonie saw them, the first question he asked was, “did you buy them from the fish market?” And then followed by, “what will Hae-jin sunbae-nim think when he sees this later?”
And so, there is sashimi and seasoned raw fish salad for dinner that night. Enough raw fish to fill up 4 hungry bellies.
6. The maknaes take over
Finally the hens produce some quality eggs, so egg roll for next morning’s breakfast is not watered down yolks. After breakfast, Chajumma appoints Ho-joonie to cook lunch, and Jin-wook to help out. And he will rest.
Before starting out with lunch preparation: a menu of baked fish, kelp soup and rice, the guys bring San-je out for his daily walk. On the way, they meet a halmoni, and help her push her heavy cart back home. (nice boys)
Back home, Ho-joon and Jin-wook rest up for a while. Ho-joon digs out a series of comic books which the crew have left in the room — and comments that they are pretty racy. (ahem, that explains his concentration)
But it’s soon time for serious lunch prep. And oh dear…are we sure Jin-wook can cook? He is asking things like: “do I need to skin the radish? And can I use my fingernails to do so? No?” Then yes, he breaks the axe while chopping firewood, but quickly repairs it before Papa Yoo comes home from his nets casting.
It isn’t long before Chajumma awakens from his post-breakfast snooze, and he decides to check out Ho-joon and Jin-wook’s progress. Erm…what he sees doesn’t really make him happy, so he turns into a nagging machine. Poor Ho-joonie is freezing up in fright with the appearance of Chajumma.
As for Jin-wook…he made such a mess of Chajumma’s beloved kitchen, he goes around tsk-tsking the dirtiness and clucking his tongue at the stains Jin-wook made on the floor, and how he never clean out the sink after washing. Jin-wook makes the wise choice to sneak out when Chajumma turns his back. (oops)
Thankfully Papa Yoo comes to their rescue. Upon returning home, he takes one look at how stressed out poor Ho-joonie/ Jin-wook are and asks Chajumma to accompany him to the supermart for an ice-cream. With the sunbae-nims gone, the guys finally breathe a sigh of relief. (heh)
However, lunch is still far from cooked…will they succeed and earn Chajumma’s praises? or flaks?
