As usual, it’s time for the round-up and the never-before-released vids of Three (Fishing). The cast gather in a sashimi restaurant in Seoul for their debriefing session, with Chajumma arriving first.
1. Their first taste of…sea bream
Following model-actor Cha Seung-won‘s (no more bandanna Chajumma) arrival, Ho-joonie reaches the restaurant looking all dapper and refreshed. Papa Yoo enters (to a cheering audience of grade schoolers) not long after too.
The trio sit, and Three‘s writer introduces them to the sashimi restaurant’s highlight — sashimi sea bream. Yep, that striped fish which eluded our fishing (non) talent Papa Yoo for all 20eps (if u include Season 1).
The cast all ooh and ahh at the huge platter of sashimi when it is brought in by the chef. And while Papa Yoo is all praises for the succulent meat, he can’t help but feel regret at not having catch the fish himself. (aww)
We start off the debriefing with writer-nim asking if Ho-joonie feels threatened with this season’s list of guests who also happen to be menial labourers. Cue flashbacks to Park Hyung-sik, Lee Jin-wook and super-labourer Yoon Kye-sang slaving over the washing area and the stoves. Ho-joonie calmly says no, there wasn’t a time he felt his “First Assistant/Labourer” position was threatened.
Papa Yoo chimes in that Ho-joonie is so in sync with them that he beats the other guys hands down. We review “evidence” — scenes of where Ho-joonie pre-empted Chajumma’s requests during food prep, scenes where he wordlessly helped Papa Yoo tend the fire, or acted as extra hands/ feet to hold on to pieces of wood when Papa Yoo was in his carpentry mode.
Yep, Ho-joonie is irreplaceable. In fact, I think after getting his sunbaes’ approvals, Ho-joonie has become more confident. He reveals he has juz got back from Africa after a bout of volunteer work, helping to build village schools with Yoo Yeon-seok maybe?
But ah, Papa Yoo has a complaint though. He whines that after sticking with them through Season 1, Ho-joonie isn’t that gullible anymore. We see a scene (from end-Season 1?) where Papa Yoo tried to trick Ho-joonie into thinking tha the washing area was wet due to their neighbour’s construction works. Ho-joonie took one look and immediately accused Papa Yoo of pranking him. 😛
3. The con artistes
And so in order to satisfy Papa Yoo (and Chajumma’s) innate need to play-act, the crew have “kindly” provided the sunbaes with “fresh meat”. Flashbacks to scenes where Hyung-sik was led to believe there was a snake in the doen-jang urn.
But no one is more gullible than Kye-sang, who without question, accepted a block of wood from Papa Yoo and hugged it around for the whole morning. And who never questioned the existence of a hot spring in the open sea. And who really thought Chajumma drinks soya sauce for health.
Papa Yoo admits that the moment they turn their backs on Kye-sang, they were all chuckling. Non-stop.
What’s more, we also learn from un-released BTS that Kye-sang lost a bet at kicking the feathered shuttlecock with the guys. He confidently bet 10,000 won to kick the shuttlecock 30x. Unfortunately, he failed, miserably. (he clocked only 10+ in total 3 tries) And so, everyone was richer by 10,000 won and Kye-sang poorer by 30,000 won. Even funnier when he didn’t have small change and had to beg the crew to exchange his 50,000 won note the next morning — cos the other victors were relentless in pursuing their owed debts.
4. Budding photo- + videographer(s)
Before the day where filming wraps up, Kye-sang and Ho-joonie make a trip up the small mountain behind their fishing hut. Kye-sang, who is an avid photographer, brings along his DSLR and takes awesome pics of Manjae-do and its surroundings.
On the other hand, Ho-joonie is tasked to play videographer — to Kye-sang.
5. Animal Kingdom
Right, I suppose we are ONLY interested in San-je and Bee. Unlike Three (Farm), Three (Fishing) doesn’t really have loads of animal friends. Then again, our resident dog and cat provide ample entertainment for us — and the cast and crew.
We start off with the ever-elegant Bee, who reveals to us the 101 sleeping positions of a cat. And not all of them are…er, suitable for public consumption. 😛 Besides snoozing, his other fav hobby is to look for bags to squeeeeze himself into — the thing with cats and boxes.
Amusingly, Bee’s most ardent fan isn’t the cast…but Na PD. Whenever the cams are not rolling, he will visit Bee and play with him. Here’s Bee smooching Na PD:
San-je. He’s kinda straightforward and simple. Most interesting thing to engage him for the whole day is annoying Bee. And getting annoyed instead when Bee whacks him (real hard) and retreats to his cat tower. Poor doggie can only stand below wistfully pleading with his cat-bro to come back down to play…(aww)
San-je’s other fav activity is checking out the guests’ belongings, and engaging in tug-of-war of socks with their owners.
6. Entertainment on Manjae-do
Not sure if the crew had a hand in this, but they leave rather interesting items for the cast to amuse themselves. For the young’uns: the racy comic books, which had Ho-joonie hooked from Day 1. He spread the
disease benefits to other guests (such as Jin-wook) and even the crew.
For the sunbaes: old VCRs — of movies they have previously acted in. (omo juz look at gaunt looking Chajumma…)
7. Topping the list
We take a stroll down memory lane as we review the items Papa Yoo had created on Manjae-do: the chopping board, a table for his cozy corner, the buffet table, the signboard, the improvised water tap, the cat tower…
And we take a look at the 29 meals Chajumma prepared over the month — a total of 80 whopping dishes.
So which dish does the cast feel is the most memorable? The kimchi jiggae with the “secret ingredient” (the canned tuna). And the dish that appears MOST on the table? Kimchi radish cubes.
And to end off, we have a sneak peak into the soon-to-be-airing Youths Over Flowers (Iceland). Na PD isn’t with them at the debriefing, cos he’s freezing his butt off with 4 guys in Iceland. And he is whining all the way, refusing to accompany them to a “hot spring”.
Chajumma evilly hopes that the temperature in Iceland be at -40deg C. (ouch)
